Wellington.— The morning was dull and threatening. Light rain fell about 11.30 a.m., but the sun came out in the afternoon. A light southerly wind prevailed. Napier and Hastings.—A continuance of hot summer conditions, with a southeast breeze. Waipukurau.— The day was cooler, the maximum temperature being 87deg., dropping sharply by 7 p.m. to 62deg. New Plymouth.— Clear sky and bright sunshine with a light westerly breeze; barometer falling slowly, being 30in. at 5 p.m. Auckland. — Cloudy but fine with a moderate to fresh south-south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 78deg. Barometric pressure showed a falling tendency, and the reading at 5 p.m. was 30.04 in. Christchurch. — Fine but for the most part overcast. A light south-west wind in the morning changed to north-east in the afternoon; maximum temperature OO.ddeg.
