MAYOR ENTERTAINS
Eastbourne Borough Council
The Eastbourne Borough Council has an annual gathering which is unique among’ the local bodies of the Hutt Valley. This is the entertainment of the councillors by the mayor and take® place after the last monthly council meeting of the year. As a rule this end-of-year party is ut the residence of the mayor, Mr. E. W. Wise, but this year it was held at the council chambers because of Mrs. Wise's indisposition. Outside guests took the opportunity, oi congratulating the council on the praiseworthy spirit of amicability which was always present in their deliberations and the manner in which they expedited the council business by avoiding irrelevant or repetitious discussion. Or. (Miss) M. A. Magill was congratulated on her appointment to the National Road Safetv Council, and the mayor on the part he had played in fostering that good spirit in the council which had been remarked on by outside speakers. Representatives of the ratepayers’ association attended, and to them thanks were expressed for the active interest they took in civic affairs.
