Addition To Anglican Welfare Activity

The Stokes Valley camp building ot the Anglieau Boys’ Home ai Lower llutt was officially opened on .Saturday. The building has been erected with a view to providing a permanent camp for the boys during the holidays. About 40 boys will be going into camp soon, after Christmas under the care ot -Mr. Gilford and two members of the stall:, who will have the assistance of volunteers from Toe IL Saturday's opening was in the form of a gift afternoon, and many presents of camping material were received from the visitors. The camp, which is at the upper end of the valley, has an acre section which, with a large garage, was a gift to the society some time ago by Mr. J. Clulow, Lower llutt. It is ideally situated on rising ground and surrounded by hedges.

The camp building includes a spacious dining-room and kitchen. The large hall will be used ns a bunk-house for small boys when in camp; the bigger boys will sleep under canvas. Electric light and water arc laid on and showers are provided. Mr. Riddil’ord gave much of the kitchen equipment. There was u large attendance at the opening. Mr. 11. B. Gordon, who welcomed the visitors, paid a tribute to the generosity of Mr. Clulow. Archdeacon Bullock said the materialisation of the camp marked another step in the extension work of the society in providing a holiday resort for the boys of the home. The building, which cost £4OO, would be of use all the year round. He attributed the completion of the scheme to the untiring enthusiasm of the secretary of the society, Mr. A. S. Kcmpthorne. Among the visitors were Archdeacon and Mrs. Bullock, the Rev. 11. E. K. and Mrs. Fry, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Gordon. The executive consisted of Mr. A. S. Kcmpthorne, secretary; Miss G. E. Menzies, Mr. T. Gifford, and Miss Shrimpton, of the Lower Hutt Home, Mr. J. Clulow, Mrs. Johanson, Miss K. Kcmpthorne, Miss Kimble, Messrs. G. G. Smith, E. Jenkins and Willis.
