principal sprint race, these being Diversion, Electric Bell and Lady Author. The latter was twice placed at Clareville last year, but her form generally has been disappointing. Diversion has a nice turn of speed, but has not raced solidly. She is now a member of L. O. Thomas’s team and her second to Mountain Flight in the Railway Handicap at the recent Manawatu meeting was suggestive of better things to come. In that race she finished on particularly well and little improvement would be necessary to enable her to win in the company she is now meeting.
Electric Bell is speedy, but is apparently a difficult horse to get and keep right as she has frequently failed to face the starter in races for which she . has been an acceptor. She raced four times only last season for a win and a second. She defeated a good figld at Wellington in September, 1936, registering 2.53 on a soft track, while at Hawera in March she ran Handicapper to half a neck when conceding him 36 yards. On that occasion she broke 2.49.
