AUSTRALIA’S DEFENCE

The general' principles controlling the expenditure of £11,000,000 on defence in Australia in the current financial year were discussed by the Defence Council to-day. The Prime Minister Mr. J. A. Lyons, presided. ? Security from external aggression is to be sought by simultaneous expansion of the navy, army, and air forces, and intensive organisation of internal resources in the production of munitions, raw materials, and foodstuffs to meet a national emergency. Australia proposes io work towai J d the ideal Of becoming the supply centre of the Western Pacific area of the Empire, It is believed there is little prospect of a reduced defence vote in the next two years.
