PHYSICAL FITNESS
National Campaign Planned 'By Telegraph—Press Association,’ Auckland, December 17. Explaining the Government’s intentions in connection with its campaign for national litness, the Hon. W. Parry said to a University College students’ deputation, which asked for more playing area facilities, that it would be better for a thousand people to take part in physical exercises than for a few to be champions. The Government intended to try and provide facilities for all sections of the community, but the difficulty would be to allocate the money that would be needed. Particular attention would have to be given to country centres. Mr. Parry said that he bad come across glaring instances of young people wanting assistance but not enthusiastic about doing some of the work. The worst disease was laziness, and physical fitness was an answer to laziness. New Zealand wanted an alert people who would be up and doing in Him of national emergency. The deputation suggested that a small art union would materially assist their purpose. Mr. Parry replied that he was prepared to consider the suggestion favourably.
