I Prize-Giving Ceremony

Napier, December 15. The Bishop of Aotearoa, Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, the mayor of Napier, Mr. C. O. Morse, the chairman of the committee, Mr. J. A. McLean, and the headmaster, Mr. F. R. Slevin. were the principal speakers at the annual prize-giving ceremony at Napier Intermediate School last night. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Hon. W. E. Barnard and Mr. G. A. Maddison, chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board. “Year after year great changes are taking place, but notwithstanding those changes such a gathering of pupils fills one with confidence and hope for the future,” said Bishop Bennett. Addressing those pupils/who had not gained prizes, he asked them to remember that there were many great men who had received little education. Among these were Captain'Cook. Edison and Samuel Mnrsden. ‘‘.Testis increased in wisdom and stature as he "rew older. He gained in both wisdom and stature and gained in favour with both God and man.” There, said Bishop Bennett, illustrating his text, we had the real meaning of education. McLean, thanked parents and friends for the support accorded the school. He paid a tribute to the headmaster and stalf for the wonderful work accomplished during

He extended on behalf of the people of Napier heartiest congratulations to the staff and pupils on the splendid results of the year’s work . The headmaster. Mr. F. R. 81evin, snoke of the splendid work done by the pupils and the wholehearted co-opera.ion of the staff of the school. He hoped to develop individuality, responsibility and ~ true form of discipline from within the school.
