HACKS THAT WIN AT TRENTHAM

Success In Better Company

(By

Carbine.)

Trentham is recognised as a great test of a racehorse. A horse which prevails in the best hack class there almost invariably wins in the higher grade soon afterward.

At the spring meeting at Trentham some good hacks were seen in action, among them The Bigot. Royal Miustrel, Lueullus Lad, Siegmund, Quadroon and Suleiman. Already Royal Minstrel and Lueullus Lad have won in open company, the former winning the principal event at the IVaipawa meeting held at Hastings, and the latter the chief event at Woodville. The Bigot was successful at Riccarton, where one of his best efforts was to run Trench Fight to a head in. the Epsp.m Handicap (one mile). This week The Bigot contested an open sprint race at Woodville and finished a moderate third after being interfered with and sent to last halfway through the race. Siegmund's Wellington form was followed by good efforts at Riccarton, and a win at Woodville last week under 9.2. Quadroon’s form is not as good as the form of those mentioned, but he was good qiiougb to separate The Bigot and Lueullus Lad in a close finish on the first day of the BleHington spring meeting. Suleiman did not meet the good hacks the others did, but he -won impressively. Most of these horses will be running In open races during the holidays, and it will not be surprising if their performances further enhance the value of the bfigt hack form at Trentham,
