Will Improve. Two-year-olds that should improve with their racing at Woodville include Kathbella, Phil and Cherry Plum. Kathbella showed brilliant pace the first day to run up and join Gay -Son on the turn. It was her first race. She is a half-sister to Misurina, being by Beau Pere from Royal Line, by Lackhani-Hymarty. Phil ran good races, although he was a trifle shin sore on the second 'day. He is by Philamor from Joy Princess, a halfsister, by Chief Ruler, to Debham. Cherry Plum, who made his debut on the second day is a particularly well grown gelding by Beau Pere from Cherry Pie, so he is a half-brother to Chief Cook, Cherry King and Jack Horner. Cherry Plum did not look ready, but he showed pace. A Good Family.

Lovelilt, who ran prominently in the Novice Stakes on the second day at "Woodville, is by Mimetic from Humoresque, by Prince Willonyx from Barcarole, by Martian —Grand Opera. There were some first-class horses in this family some years back, Barcarole being a full-sister to Soldier’s Chorus and Tannhauser. It is another branch of the Mermaid taproot, which has supplied many of New Zealand’s best horses. Lovelilt lacks experience, but she should improve.
