WILLIE WIN’S TRIP OFF

Silver Streak Going North

Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, December 15. Willie Win galloped half a mile again to-day and although he appeared to be all right walking back, he was very lame when cooled off and it was immediately decided that he would not go to Ellerslie. The trouble is considered to be muscular only, probably an aftermath of his solid pr<>iaration in Melbourne and the subsequent long trip home, but it is not likely to be of serious consequences and should soon pass off. He does not show the effects of his ailment when wanned up and stretched out, but with his restricted work it was not deemed advisable to take any risks by sending him north. He is to be kept in easy work and it is hoped that he will be fit and well for the Wellington Cup next month. Present arrangements are to take Linguist and Drinkup to the Westland meeting on December 27 and to return to Waikouaiti and Oamaru for the New Year meetings. Linguist and Redolent were nominated for the Taranaki meeting, but owing to the latter contracting ligament trouble the trip was declared off. Plans regarding Silver Streak’s holiday programme were held up owing to difficulty in securing a rider for him in the Auckland Cup, but to-day when his trainer ascertained that Willie Win would be an absentee, he got into touch with L. J. Ellis and engaged him. and the Oamaru gelding will go north tomorrow.

Silver Streak is reported to have got through a good deal of solid work since the New Zealand Cup meeting and in the face of his third placing in ihe big race at Riccarton he has' to be regarded in the Ellerslie event. The Ellerslie track, too, should suit hirti better than Riccarton.
