ROAD SURFACES

Variety In Treatment

During the present week parts of the large open area at the eastern end of Courtenay Place have been treated to a “drag coat’’ of light bituminous hot-mix, spread by a grader. By this method big areas can be covered speedily and the renewal of the surface at once eradicates all irregularities. This “drag coat’’ treatment is also applicable to lightly-surfaced streets as well as those paved with hot-mix. Where the streets are paved with wood blocks, a wearing coat of bitumen and. fine metal chips is administered, but should the wood-locked surface be very rough a “drag coat’’ is given in order to eliminate surface roughnesses or waves.
