Intoxication Admitted By Motorist

Charles Edward Graham, a sergeant in the New Zealand Permanent Forces, who admitted being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car in Constable Street on Thursday night, was convicted by Mr. J. G, L. Hewitt, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday, and fined £lO. His licence was cancelled for 12 months and he was given a fortnight to pay the fine. Sub-Inspector J. A. Dempsey said accused attended a dinner of his corps at Fort Dorset, where, according to his statement, he drank nothing but apple cider. He drove his car into a lorry parked near Owen Street, at 11.10 p.m., and at midnight was medically certified unfit to drive.
