Reply To Mr. R. B. Bennett

Vancouver, November 26.

The Canadian .Minister of Agriculture, Mr. J. G. Gardiner, declaring that the Leader bf the Opposition, Mr. R. B. Bennett, was unduly excited before the proposed trade treaty between Britain and the U.S.A, was even signed, asserted that Canadian interests would be protected in any agreement that was signed ;

Charging the Government witli secretly agreeing to abolish preference and to bring pressure to bear to save the United Kingdom markets, Mr. Bennett said: ‘‘l see tariffs piling up against Canada and shutting Canadian goods out, of the United States. The United Kingdom cannot abolish preference unless the Canadian Government agrees as a world peace gesture. The Imperial Conference gave United Kingdom markets to the United States, since when it has been customary to neglect the members of one's own family for a stranger.”
