The annual report, which was adopted, stated t'hat during the year appeals for help were met as follows:— Beds, 157; meals, 479; clothes issued, 73; rent paid, 20; boots issued, 26; fares paid, 26; groceries supplied, 41. In all, 281 persons had been assisted. The expenditure was £3OO/1/- and the income £236/5/7. The increase in expenditure was due largely to the increased grants for clothing, fares and tools. This was indicative of improving conditions. 1 Men were being absorbed into tirades and industries instead of remaining in the cities on sustenance or relief. During the winter months, the secretary and treasurer gave two cinema evenings for the entertainment of the men in the Mount Crawford Prison. Acknowledgment is made of the generosity of Kodak, New Zealand, Ltd., for making up suitable programmes of films. The assistance of officers of the Employment Bureau, officers of the State Placement Service, fihe T. G. Macarfhy Trust, and also the grant from the proceeds of art unions made by the Minister of Internal Affairs, and the indebtedness of the society to the superintendent of the Mount Crawford Prison and his officers for assistance during t<he year, are gratefully acknowledged.
