UNSTAMPED RECEIPT
Wellington Firm Denies Offence Independent Motor Sales, Limited, Wellington, were charged in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday, with issuing on August 9 an unstamped receipt for £3. Sub-Inspector J. A. Dempsey prosecuted, and Mr. S. A. Wiren appeared for defendants. The defence was that the document was an interim receipt, representing an unconfirmed transaction, and that the acknowledgement of a debt did not require a stamp. The magistrate, Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., reserved his decision.
