COMING-OF-AGE PARTY AT LOWER HUTT
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Grieg, Broadway, Picton, entertained a large number ot relatives and friends at Miss Eva Draper’s studio, Lower Hutt, on the occasion of the coniing-of-age of their daughter, Phyllis. Mr. and Mrs. Grieg received the guests, the latter in a frock of floral georgette with a shoulder-spray of scarlet roses. Miss Grieg wore a white model frock cut on classical lines with a pink shoulder-spray and a white glossy silk cocktail coat. Mrs. W. Grieg, sen., was in a black silk frock and coat, and Mrs. F. Potter, an aunt, was in a black frock and velvet coatee. Mrs. R. Stott, another aunt, was also in black. Mrs. J. McKain. an aunt from Palmerston North, was in black. The tables were tastefully decorated with pink cherry-blossom, pink azaleas and asparagus fern, and pink streamers and balloons to match the beautifully decorated pink birthday cake. Mr. Grieg presented his dughter with a golden key on which all the guests inscribed their names. The guests sang “I’m Twenty-one To-day,’’ and threw coloured streamers round Miss Grieg. The following items were contributed: Stepdance, Mr. Jack Glennie; vocal duet, Mrs. F. Potter and Miss P. Grieg; solo and chorus, Mrs. Noel Taylor and her glee club; solo and chorus by Mrs. F. Potter and Mrs. Noel Taylor’s Glee Club. Dancing was indulged in until midnight, and the evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Sync.’’ Miss Grieg was the recipient of many beautiful gifts and telegrams of congratulation. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. W. Potter, Mrs. Stedman, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Andrews, Mr. and Mrs. B. Hanratty, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Carkin, Mr. and Mrs. D. Grief, Mrs. R. Nagel; Misses Betty Macdonald, M. Barton, B. Barton. J. Butcher. B. Jones, N. Olphert, M. Pocknail, V. O’Reilly, N. Brown, E. Christie, M. Wells, N. Wood, D. Tompkins M. Nicol, D. Marshall. S.
