KIDNAPPED MAN
Ransom Paid In Vain Chicago, October 19. G-men revealed that a ransom of 50,000 dollars was paid in vain in an effort to obtain the return of Charles Ross, aged 72, a retired publisher of greeting cards, who was kidnapped on September 25. The opinion is expressed that Ross, who was a sufferer from heart disease, is dead. An active search has started. The kidnappers passed a number of ransom bills.
