OBITUARY
Mr, David Buchanan One of the most popular members of the farming community in the Manawatu and a stock breeder of exceptional ability, Mr. David Buchanan, of Tiakitahuna, died in the Palmerston North Hospital on Sunday, says a "Dominion” special service message. He was 66 years of age. Born near Glasgow, Mr. Buchanan went to Australia when 16 years of age and lived at Camperdown (Victoria) for some time. After marrying Miss Rose Campbell, he came to New Zealand, taking up residence in the South Island and afterward moving to Taranaki. He took over a ffirra property at Tiakitahuna 28 years ago. He displayed a keen interest iu the rearing of good stock, find his show exhibits of Ayrshire cattle and Large White pigs were well known. Since 1918 Mr. Buchanan was a member of the committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, and in 1933 was elected president. He was keenly interested in the Manawatu Scottish Society, and in 1921 was elected president. For many years he was a director of the Kairanga Dairy Company, and he was also a prominent member of the" Presbyterian Church. He leaves a widow and two sons, Mr. Campbell Buchanan, Bainesse, and Mr. Alan Buchanan, Tiakitahuna. Mi’s. Robert Russell The death occurred on Sunday after a long and painful illness, of Mrs. Russell, wife of Mr. Robert Russell, Masterton, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. Mrs. Russell (nee Miss Maud England) was born in Aubrey, New South Wales, 56 years ago. She came to New Zealand as a child and spent her childhood with her grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bourn, Featherston. She married in Wellington in 1903, and came to Masterton, where she had resided ever since, i Mrs. Russell was a member of the Methodist Ladies’ Guild, and was a great worker for the temperance movement. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Messrs. George Robert Russell and Percival Russell, and three grandchildren, all of Masterton, and one sister, Mrs. C. Stadon, Lowe? Hutt. Mr. T. H. Farrell The death has occurred suddenly of Mr. Thomas Henry Farrell, a wellknown citizen of Napier, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. He had just visited his wife, who is an inmate of a private hospital at Napier, when his death occurred. Born in Rosscommon, Ireland, Mr. Farrell resided at Wellington for five years before going to Napier 25 years ago, when he joined the staff of the Napier Harbour Board. He retired about three years ago owing to illhealth. Mr. Farrell was a returned soldier, being a member of the Twentyseventh Reinforcements.
