"CHILDREN'S GROUP"

Suggestion for British Music Society A most interesting evening was spent recently by members of the piano group of the British Music Society, when a programme of lesser-known piano works was presented. The impromptu own selection section was again a popular addition to the set programme. Mis s Valerie Corliss, honorary organiser of the British Music Society, addressed the group on the subject of a proposed children’s group of the British Music Society. She said that the society was moving in the direction of assisting in the advancement of musical culture among children and that a children’s group under the auspices of the society would prove a splendid foundation upon which to build. Plans were being formed for the assistance of musical culture in schools and among the branches of the society. There were vast possibilities in the work which the society could achieve among children in providing musical stimulation and musical experiences. A small committee was elected by the group to deal with the initial steps in forming the children’s group, consisting of Misses Black, Moncrieff, Downing, and Gaudin. Those members who contributed to the splendid programme were Mrs. Bagnall, Misses M. Dixon. C. Hall, G. Gaudin, M, Horner, E. Watts, M. Rising, B. Johnston, K. Sims, D. Downing, J. Richardson, and Messrs. E. Burt and K. Picton. Others present included Misses L. Black, O. Moncrieff, P. Inns, S. Parr, E. Hosken, N. Murphy, Messrs. J. McGill and A. Brandon. For the Grand National North Island visitors to Christchurch for the Grand National will include Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Tringhain, Wellington; Miss Doris Bray and Miss Lorna Bray, Wellington; Mr. and Mrs. F. Armstrong, Akitlo; Mr. and Mrs. E. Loisel, Tolaga Bay; Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Wall, Hatuma; Mrs. F, Herrick, Miss Una Herrick, Miss O. Williams, Hawke’s Bay. ‘
