The Bride’s Thunder
who have never heard that stealing the show is unethical really are not old enough to be bridesmaids at all. They would be better off holding hands in a picture theatre. Of course, you cannot always tell bow a bridesmaid's ethics incline until you have seen her play her part. If she flits about the bride's elbow during the reception and flashes smiles at all the unmarried men, then she has made a bad start. If she insists on dominating the conversation during the wedding breakfast, then she is going from bad to worse. And if she is especially
attentive to the groom, then she is just plain childish. If a bridesmaid is so beautiful that she outshines the bride anyhow, it may be hard for her to play background. But she can do it if she is clever. She can refrain from too many witty remarks and curb her eyelashes whenever she finds herself near the bride. She can make the bride feel that she looks wonderful by a few admiring glances, and even a few admiring remarks. And she can save her “leading lady” behaviour until another time, for it will surely keep.
