Wellington people say they get accustomed to Wellington hills: visitors take it as splendid proof of Coueism. But. even Wellington people know better than.to let a driverless car go rolling down a Wellington street toward a Wellington hill. A young nurse of my acquaintance was hurrying to her hospital the other day when she saw an open tourer, with no one at the wheel, coming slowly toward her. True to her training, she acted promptly, jumping on the running board and jerking the hand-brake briskly. Tbe car stopped and the nurse looked up to see a tousled, heavilybreathing man watching her sombrely from the other side. She smiled at him. “I stopped it,” she said brightly. “Yes,” he replied without enthusiasm. She broke an uncomfortable silence with a question. “Did it get away from you ?” The man gave her a wintry smile. “No, not exactly,” he answered. “I have run out of petrol. I was pushing it.” .
