NEW HOSPITAL BLOCK
Plans Considered by Board Plans for the new hospital block were further considered at a special meeting of the Wellington II ‘spit al Board last night, when a report by the superintendent, Dr. A. R. Thorne, dealing at some length with the building proposals, was placed before the members. . Dr. Thorne illustrated his report by means of lantern slides showing the proposed additions and alterations. It was hoped within the next few weeks to have (the plans ready for the nurses’ home, Dr. Thorne said. The present plans provided for 132 bedrooms, but when the sixth story was completed there would be 17S bedrooms available. , , , Plans for the new boiler-house had been developed so that three of the existing boilers were to be re-used. Two other boilers would be required, and these and the automatic stoking appliance could be made in New Zealand. Under the present proposal, the kitchen block is to serve all the hospital buildings, present and proposed. Tenders for the nurses’ home and the boiler-house are to be called about the end of September, and it is hoped to have tenders for the main building accepted early in the New Y ear.
