TAKING NO CHANCES
South Africa’s Fear of Pests (Received July 31, 1 a.m.) Pretoria, July 30. Because of an increasing fear of the introduction of pests from overseas, the Department of Agriculture has banned the entry of live worms, shellfish, fish, centipedes, fleas, beetles, frogs, reptiles, birds, rodents—even goldfish and guinea-pigs, which require a special permit. But dogs and certain other pets are exempted, subject to stricter quarantine. The entry of rabbits was previously prohibited.
