YEAR OF PROGRESS
Wellington Travel Club “Excellent support of the initial meeting was followed by a year of extraordinary progress,” said the president of the Wellington Travel Club, Mr. 1. C. A. Hisiop, at the annual 'meeting of the club last night. Few of those who were present at that initial meeting had any hopes of the expansion proceeding as fast as it had done, and as soon as the scope of the activities had been widened a little the already large membership of 700 could be increased stiff further. During the year a _ great many very successful gatherings had been held and members had derived great pleasure from the opportunities gnen to meet people of distinction and interest, he said. The club had fulfilled a useful function in the community by the extension of hospitality and the hand of friendship to visitors from overseas, hospitality which would undoubtedly be reciprocated when members travelleu abroad. Mr. Hislop paid a tribute to the unflagging work of the executive by whose efforts the activity of the club had been maintained. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. Hislop stated that the financial position of the club was very sound, there being assets totalling £lB9/11/-, while liabilities were nil. He warmly thanked Miss N. E. Donovan for her constant efforts on behalf of the club, which had largely contributed toward the success and the popularity of the functions arranged. Seconding the motion, Mr. G. G. Stewart stressed the very fine spirit in.which all gatherings of the club were conducted, and suggested that the club had done a good deal toward advancing the civic spirit in Wellington. A discussion on the advisability of having a club badge or distinguishing membership card was concluded with the assurance that the incoming committee would take steps to provide something of that nature.
