NURSES WHO RESIGN
Must Complete Period of
Contract
A report on nurses’ resignations was presented by the house committee and adopted at last night’s meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board, and on the suggestion of the medical superintendent, Dr. A. R. Thorne, it was decided to notify intending nurses before they sign on, that they must stay the full period of the contract “I suggest that a small circular from the board be given to every nurse before she signs on, telling her that once she signs on she must stay the full period of her contract,” the superintendent stated, “unless for some reason acceptable to the board she is permitted to break her agreement. In all such cases applications for release must be made to the board through the matron and superintendent. I cannot see that any penalty can be enforced unless a month’s, salary is retained till completion of her course, and this would penalise many nurses who need the money.”
