A BIRTHDAY PARTY

W.D.F.U. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent recently, when the Johnsonville branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held their second birthday party at Mrs. Gardiner’s tearooms. The president, Mrs. XVindley, welcomed a full attendance of members and a number of visitors. Mrs. Hawthorne, president of the Upper Hutt' branch, gave a very interesting talk on the recent conference, and wars presented with a gift box of home-made sweets, as also was Mrs. McWhinnie, who delighted everyone with her singing of two solos. Mrs. Windley and Mrs. E. Mexted, sec-retary-treasurer, were each presented with posies, and competitions were won by Mrs. Liddle and Mrs. Evan's. During afternoon tea' the birthday cake, made and presented by Miss Joan Bryant, was cut, everyone greatly allmiring its artistic decorations. PERSONAL Visitors to Wellington Mr. and Mrs. C. Nelson-Smith are Napier visitors to 'Wellington. Mrs. B. T. Dinwiddle, Napier, is paying a visit to Wellington. Mrs. Chas. Gardner, Hastings, is a visitor to Wellington. Mrs. Matheson, Hastings, is visiting her mother in Wellington. Miss Doris. Blythe is a Wanganui visitor to Wellington. Mrs. J. Sleaman, Poverty Bay, is visiting friends in Wellington. Mrs. Claude Newton, Christchurch, who has been touring in the north with her father, Dr. Hughes Steele, will arrive at Wellington this afternoon to spend the week-end with her parents. Mrs. Victor Peters, Christchurch, has arrived at Wellington to join her husband, who is the guest of Mr. E. Anscombe. On Holiday Miss Barbara Malfroy, Wellington, is the guest of Miss Josephine King, New Plymouth. Mrs. W. Peat, St. John’s Hill, Wanganui, is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. Kershaw, Martinborough. Mr. and Mrs. Rivers, Wellington, are visiting their daughter, Mrs. W. J. Gardner, Wanganui. Miss Dinah Sloman, who has been living in Sydney for some time, will arrive in Wellington next week to spend three weeks with her mother, Mrs. W. T. Sloman, 189 Tinakori Road, before returning to a position in Melbourne. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Black, Wellington, are visiting Timaru. Miss M. J. Jennings, who has been spending a holiday in Australia, returned to New Zealand by the Mariposa, and will spend a few weeks in Auckland and Rotorua before returning to Wellington. Returned to Wellington Mrs. F. Malfroy has returned' to Wellington from a visit to Stratford. Lady Beauchamp has returned/ to Wellington from a visit to Hawke’s Bay. Mrs. Nicholls, Wellington, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. J. R. Bethwaite, Northcote, Auckland, has returned to her home. Mrs. Alex Brodie, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Drader, New Plymouth, has returned to Wellington. Returned Home Miss Bee has returned to Eltham from a visit to Wellington. Mrs. H. S. Turner has returned to Eltham from a visit to Wellington. Miss Bayfield, who has been visiting Wellington, has returned to Eltham. Mrs. H. Vause and Miss D. Vause have returned to Eltham from Wellington.
