Late Trains
Sir. —I was interested to note that Mr. G. H. Mackley insists that the lateness of trains is something that the publie should be prepared to put up with. He entirely ignores the fact that ths public pays for transport at certain times specified by the Railway Department, and if their arrangements are completely upset because the department fads to keep its engagement, a complaint is fully warranted. I would ask Mr. Mackley to explain why the city-bound train that is due at Tawa Flat at 8.49 p.m. on Sundays did not reach that station on Sunday last until 9.25. Passengers stated that for no apparent reason there was a delay of about half an hour at Paekakariki, while passengers at Tawa were enduring a bitterly cold wait of 36 minutes. I would suggest to the general manager that on such occasions passengers in the trains be informed of the probable duration of the delay, and that the same information be passed on to interested stations.—l am, etc., FROST-BITTEN.
