Decision to Increase Annual Bonus A decision to Increase the present bonus of £25 on completion of a year’s service by house surgeons to £5O was made at lust night’s meeting of the AVellington Hospital Board, when it adopted the recommendation of the house committee’s report. "Two of our senior house surge<>”s have left during the past month,” stared the report. "’AVhile this does not seriously deplete the staff it is most important that we should endeavour to keep an adequate staff of house surgeons in both the senior and junior grades.■ The salaries at present are £l5O in the first year and £250 in the second year, with a bonus of £25 on completion of the year’s service. “In recent years there has been a tendency for the salaries of house surgeons to be increased in most hospitals in this country and several of the smaller hospitals nre paying £250 and £275 hi the first year.” The report wont on Io state that salaries at Auckland wore £2OO in the first year and £3OO in I lie second. The chairman. Mr. J. Glover, said it was very necessary to increase the bonus because other places offering higher salaries got the pick of doctors and Wellington had to take what were left.
