SCORING RESTRICTED

New Zealand Cricketers Against Scotland PLAY ON SLOW OUTFIELD (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association.) Dunfermline, July 21.

The New Zealand cricket team commenced its second match against Scotland to-day, the match being limited to two days. Owing to wet weather, play was not started until after lunch, and New Zealand had scored 209 for seven wickets at stumps. Heavy rain fell overnight and it was showery to-day. The wicket was covered but the soft outfield was very slow. Hadlee was aggressive, off-driving and hooking in line style. Roberts batted steadily, his shoulder standing the strain well. After tea the drying wicket favoured the left-hander Melville, and Farquhar, a fast-medium bowler, was also effective, five wickets being down for 119 runs. Scotland were bowling and fielding well, but Weir and Page added 50 runs at a difficult time. New Zealand’s score would have been much larger if the wet outfield had not reduced to 2’s many strokes which ordinarily would have been 4’s. An early start is planned for tomorrow to compensate for the time lost to-day. The chilly weather reduced tlie attendance, which was approximately 1000. The team is being most hospitably entertained in Scotland. The invitations were so numerous that many had to be declined, including a dinner by the Carnegie Trust. Details: NEW ZEALAND.
