CHANNEL COLLISION

British Steamer Holed (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, May 9. The London steamer Willesden (4503 tons) was badly holed in a collision with the Italian steamer Gianfranco (8181 tons) in thick fog in the English Channel off Dover early this morning anil was reported by her owners to be sinking. The Dungeness and Dover lifeboats were launched, but the Willesden's crew, who had taken to the boats, were picked up by the British steamer Thistleglen, which stood by. After an unsuccessful attempt to beach the Willesden two tugs arrived from Dover, and the disabled vessel was taken in tow.

The Gianfranco proceeded on her journey to Bremen. This afternoon the Willesden, whose crew had reboarded her, was beached near Rye.
