MI.'TSTERIAL The Hon. I>. Fraser, Acting-Prime Minister, will open the Waikato Winter Show at Hamilton this afternoon by telephone from his office at Parliament Buildings. The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, will return to Wellington from the north to-day. The Hon. H. G. R. Mason, AttorneyGeneral, returned to Wellington from Auckland by the Limited express yesterday morning. The Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Mines, will leave Wellington for Auckland by the Limited express to-night. The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, loft Wellington for Blenheim on official business by aeroplane yesterday afternoon. Mr. Semple, who will inspect a proposed irrigation scheme in the Marlborough district this morning, will return to Wellington by aeroplane to-morrow. Mr. P. N. Jeffreys left Wellington for the south last night. Mr. F. Vickerman, Wellington, is visiting Dunedin. Mr. T. A. McLyniont loft by last night’s train for Auckland. Mr. W. G. K. Wright was a passenger for the north by last night’s train. Messrs, W. S. and K. Newburgh returned to Christchurch last night. Mr. R. S. Black left. Wellington last night on his return to Dunedin. Mr. Arthur I’.ascoe has returned to Wellington after spending two weeks in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Spiers were passengers to Auckland by last night’s Limited express. Mrs. K. C. O’Shea and Miss O’Shea were among last, night’s passengers on the Limited express. Mr. L. J. Berry was a passenger to Auckland by the Limited express last night. Mr. R. Lowe, of Woolworths, Ltd., left Wellington by last night’s Limited express. Mr. R. C. Field, of the Colgate-Palm-olive Company, loft Wellington last night for the north. Mr. G. R. Sutton was a p.nssenger for the north by last night’s- Limited express. Messrs. W. Moir and J. L Drysdale, of the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. of New Zealand, Ltd., left for the south last, night. Mr. A. Wyness, managing director of His Master’s Voice (New Zealand), Ltd., was a passenger to Auckland by the Limited express last night. Mr. D. T. Woodfield, Dunedin, who has been paying a brief visit to Wellington, returned south by Inst night’s steamer express. Mr. Cecil Marks, Sydney, general manager of United Artists (Australasia), Ltd., and Mr. B. Allen, general manager for New Zealand, were among the passengers for the south by the steamer express last night. Mr. C. B. Hearn, general manager of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society, Limited, will arrive at Wellington by tlie Wanganella this morning on an official visit to the society’s branches in New Zealand. Mr. W. E. G. Paqualin, formerly manager of the Palmerston North branch of the Union Bank of Australia, who has been transferred on promotion to Dunedin, passed through Wellington on his way south yesterday. Mr. A. D. Benham left New Zealand last week for England, where he will probably reside permanently. He obtained the degrees of B.E. and M.Se. at Canterbury University College and was p nominee for a Rhodes Scholarship for two years in succession. Mr. .1. Moller, director of Erven Lucas Bols. is making a business tour of New Zealand. He was, in his youth, a famous athlete in his own country. He was sculling champion of Holland, and is now a skilful exponent of winter sports. The Rev. and Mrs. 11. A. Jones, of the New Zealand Baptist MissionarySociety. East Bengal, India, will arrive at Wellington from Nelson this morning. During their stay in Wellington they will be the guests of the Rev. and Mrs. C. S. Matthews, at the Baptist manse, Lyall Bay. Tim Hon. W. E. Barnard, Speaker of the House of Representatives, left Wellington for the south by the interisland express steamer last night. Mr. Barnard, who will be accompanied by Mrs. Barnard and his daughter, will deliver Ihe address at the citizens’ coronation celebrations at Dunedin tomorrow. He will return to Wellington early next week.
Mr. Leonard J. Cronin lias been appointed managing editor of the “New Zealand Financial Times,” Wellington, and will take up his duties early in July, a Dominion Special Service message from Dunedin states. Mr. Cronin, who has been editor of the “Tablet” for the past live years, has had more than 20 years’ experience in journalism in the Dominion and has occupied many important posts on city newspapers, chiefly in the North Island.
