The white heron, so familiar to the people of Christchurch, has once again returned to its old haunts in the Botanical Gardens, but this year it put in an early appearance, arriving three days before the date on which it returned in 1036. Reference was made to this fact at S. meeting of the Christchurch Domains Board, when the chairman, Mr. 11. Kitson, remarked that he sincerely hoped the early arrival of the bird was meant as a good omen for the successful working of the hoard during the coming year.
