FIRST READING OF THE PROCLAMATION

Waipukurau May Hold the Honour Dominion Special Service. Waipukurau, May 10. Waipukurau will be the first town in New Zealand, if not in the British Empire, to proclaim George VI King. This is due to the decision of the Waipukurau coronation celebrations committee, which has arranged to hold the ceremony at 9.45 a.m. to fit in with the other celebrations. Had it been decided to read the Proclamation at 11 a.m., as is being done in most New Zealand towns, Napier would have been the first to proclaim the new’ King by virtue of its position as tbe most eastern town in New Zealand. If the Proclamation is read at 11 a.in. in Fiji, which is the most eastern portion of the Empire, the reading of the Waipukurau proclamation at 9.45 a.m. will be the first such ceremony iu the Empire.
