- 4- —• King George V Memorial Fund in Wellington SUBSCRIPTION LIST GROWS Yesterday the mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, acknowledged the following additional subscriptions to the King George V Memorial Fund for the establishment of permanent health camps for New Zealand children: —

WELLINGTON EMPLOYERS’ DONATION A recommendation to its executive committee that the sum of £lOO be donated to the King George V Memorial Fund was made by the Wellington Employers’ Association at its annual meeting last night. Mr. W. J. Gaudin was appointed to represent the association on the committee established by the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, to organise the fund in Wellington. The committee of the association met later and endorsed the recommendation. FIRM GIVES £5OO By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, May 10. In commemoration of the Coronation, Cadbury, Fry, Hudson, Ltd., have given £5OO to the .King George V Memorial Fund, and the firm will further distribute £650 as a bonus to their factory employees. APPEAL MADE: TO SCHOOL COMMITTEES An appeal to and representatives dlyponie and school associations to support the King George V Memorial Fund was made last night at the annual meeting of the Wellington School Committees and Educational Federation by the president, Mr. J. Fyfe. Donations of £5 from the Newtown Parents' and Old Students’ Association and £3/3/- from the Clyde Quay School Committee were received by the federation to form the nucleus of that body’s contribution. It was also mentioned that £2/2/- from the Te Aro School’s association had been sent direct to the mayor’s fund. “To all committeemen who have realised the definite building of the children’s health after attending the Otaki health camp I think no appeal should be necessary,” Mr. Fyfe said. “The fund is to be used to stabilise health camps and every effort should be made by school committees and home and school associations to assist in building up this fund. I would make a personal appeal for donations in order to make the public realise how much school committees appreciate the effort that is being made.” Mr. F.‘ H. Porter (Kllbirnle School Committee) said that as the federation bad asked the Wellington Education Board to set aside a day for a school collection for the fund, there seemed to be some danger of overlapping. Mr. Fyfe said that as the fund closed on June 3 and the children were now

away from the schools, it would be practically impossible to get into touch with parents while the schools were closed. Therefore, committeemen should not wait but. should endeavour to make their sontributions through the federation without delay. Officers Elected. The election of office-bearers resulted: —President, Mr. J. Fyfe (Newtown School Committee) ; vice-president, Mr. E. Miller (Berhampore School Committee) ;' organising secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. T. Burnette (Newtown Parents’ and Old Students’ Association) ; hon. solicitor, Mr. F. W. Ongley; hon. auditor, Mr. H. J. M Barley; executive, Mrs. M. J. Bentley (Clyde Quay Home and Schoo! Association), Mr F. H. Porter (Kilbirnie School Committee), Mrs. E. Smith (Wadestown Home and School Association), and Mr. A. J. B. Foote (Berhampore School Committee). Two other members are to be appointed. Mrs. M. J. Bentley was re-elected the federation’s delegate on the Otaki Health Camp Association. An appeal for support of the forthcoming conference of the New Education Conference was made by Mr. Max Riske. who addressed the meeting on behalf of the New Zealand Educational Institute and the Fellowship Conference Committee. The conference, he said, was to be open to everybody and was not a “highbrow” gathering for teachers, but an opportunity for educational enlightenment not likely to occur again in a generation.
