ITALY’S ATTITUDE TO CORONATION

No Boycott in Australia CONSUL TO ATTEND THE CEREMONIES By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received May 10, 9.30 p.m.) Sydney, May 10. The acting Italian Consul-General for Australia, Commander Vitali, states that he has had no official advice along the lines of reports of Signor Mussolini’s attitude to the Coronation. Italian flags would be flown from the consular office In Sydney on Coronation Day. "It is the greatest honour we can do,” added Commander Vitali, who, it is understood, will attend the official ceremonies during Coronation Week. Reports indicate that a similar attitude will be adopted by Italian consulates in the other States. POSITION IN DOMINION Statement by Consul To date the official representative of the Italian Government in Wellington has received no Instruction not to participate in coronation celebrations here. Members of New Zealand's by no means inconsiderable Italian population will therefore be able to take part in the festivities without any fear that they will unwittingly be offending the Duce. Interviewed by "The Dominion” yesterday, Signor O. Carraro, acting-con-sul for Italy in New Zealand, Fiji, and Samoa, stated that he had read the cabled reports published, but had so far received no explicit instructions as to wh.at attitude to adopt. He had previously received information that the Italian Ambassador in London would take part in the coronation ceremonies there, and in that case he would follow a similar procedure. Although that advice had been received some time ago, he had not so far been given any instructions that would countermand it. APPROVAL OF NAZIS Germany May Follow Italy Berlin, May 9. The Press whole-heartedly approves Italy’s withdrawal of correspondents from London and the banning of the majority of English newspapers, and hints that Germany will shortly do likewise. It emphasises the extent of the patience hitherto displayed by Italy and Germany.
