Great Review of Troops in Rome Rome, May 9. The Prime Minister, Signor Mussolini, accompanied King Victor Emmanuel at a review of 40,000 troops
who participated in the Abyssinian War. Ton thousand Eritrean askaris, Somaliland dubats, and Libyan cavalry and camel corps troops took part. It is estimated that a crowd of 500,000 people watched the parade, after which Signor
Mussolini spoke from the Palazza Venlzia and proclaimed Italy’s mission of civilisation in Africa and her desire for world peace.
FIRM IN ABYSSINIA Time to Liquidate Granted London, May 9. The Simla correspondent of "The Times” states that as a result of British representations in Rome Italy is allowing the firm of Mohammed Ali liberty to carry out liquidation and accordingly the Government of India has decided not to retaliate against Italy. This many Indian, quarters were urging. It was reported in April that Mohammedan and Indian chain stores in Abyssinia had been suppressed and the proprietors expelled. It was alleged that all the firm’s branches worked on behalf of the British Secret Service and were the headquarters of British officers and espionage agents linked up with a view to plans for a British invasion of Abyssinia.
