FRENCH CLUB

A large and interested audience assembled last week to enjoy a programme arranged by Madame 0. R. Bendall, 0.A., for the Cercle Litteraire Francais de Wellington, of which she is first vice-president. The soirees organised by Mme. Bendall are always anticipated with pleasure, and this one was even more successful than usual in the opinion of many. It began will) a discourse upon the illustrious French diplomat Talleyrand (or "1c Diable Boiteux). This was contributed by Mme. Bendall herself and was listened to with close attention.

During the interval songs were given by Mrs. Wood. The second part of the evening was occupied by a Pierre Weber comedy. The parts were taken by Miss Mary Hursthouse, Mr. Lawrence Brown, Mme. Young and Mr. I. J. Hills. Although played in a modern setting, a quaint touch was provided by the Brittany cap worn by the maid.

Miss Huntingdon, assisted by Mesdames Kay and Leo du Chateau and Miss Lilian Smith, was responsible for the supper arrangements. Among the visitors wore Madame Pierro Henri, Miss Use Chauvet. and Captain K. D. Oliver, R.N. Madame Eric Lash received the guests.
