PARAMOUNT THEATRE

“Top Hat” Tapping feet and snappy songs abound in "Top Hat,” the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers picture, which is having a return season in Wellington at the Paramount Theatre. It will need little introduction to the public, and many will welcome the opportunity of seeing the picture again—perhaps for the third or fourth time. Because, after all, it’s that sort of picture; the more you see it the better you like it. Fred Astaire dances his way to happiness and fortune, whirling Ginger Rogers with him in a series of evolutions and ensembles that make one weak with amazement and admiration. The story does not matter much, for Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers could "put over" any picture without trouble. The plot, however, is ingenious, and the situations are packed with laughs. Erie Blore, .who has gained fame as file perfect butler, and Edward Everett Horton add to the fun. Five song hits are featured.- among them being the lovely "Cheek to Cheek" and the theme song, "Top Hat, ’White Tie and Tails.” A huge mixed chorus of Hollywood’s finest dancers also does an ensemble arrangement. of the “Piccolino.” a feature dance of the picture, which is rich in spectacle. Astaire and Miss Rogers do an intricate team routine of the “Piecoliuo.” The supporting programme includes Cinesound News, Pathe Topics, "Night at the Biltmore Bowl” (musical), and "Gem of the Pacific” (scenic).
