INFANTILE PARALYSIS
No Further Wellington Cases No further cases of inffmtile paralysis were reported in Wellington yesterday. The following statement has been . made by the Medical Officer of Health, ‘Wellington:— “Though the outbreak of poliomyelitis is showing definite signs of lessening it is still necessary to continue preventive measures, particularly where children may be brought into contact with large gatherings of jieoplc. The Health Department has placed a definite ban on the attendance of children at schools, Sunday schools, theatres, and all large gatherings held indoors, but parents are also most strongly advised to keep their children away from large gatherings held out of doors, and this may be taken to include attendance at football matches, sports gatherings .and every other similar attraction which causes people to collect in large numbers, “Members of the public should realise that willing and intelligent co-oper-ation with the spirit of these restrictions is in the direct interests of their children, and will materially assist in controlling the spread of infection and bringing the outbreak to an end.” NEW ZEALAND SUMMARY Palmerston North.— After a lapse of several days, a fresh case of infantile paralysis has been admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital. The patient is a boy of seven years from the city area and the authorities advise that the case is a positive one, but without any signs of actual paralysis. Hastings.—A further case of infantile paralysis is reported by the health authorities at Hastings, the victim luting a 12-year-old pupil of Mahora School.
