MORE ACCOMMODATION

New Primary Department at Carterton Extensive additions to the Carterton District High School are now under way and six classrooms, two large cloakrooms, headmaster’s office and store are being erected on the new site purchased by the Wellington Education Board some years ago. When completed the new building will form the primary department. The new classrooms are being constructed on open-air lines and the plans provide for a wide veranda along the northern frontage, on to which all the rooms are to open. In front of the veranda will be a concrete assembly area. Extensive additions are also contemplated to the shelter and lavatory block. The school is to be heated in accordance with modern practice. The site is a level one and will afford a fine play area for the whole school. It is expected that the new primary department will be ready for occupation in from 10 to 12 weeks’ time.
