ONE-DAY VISIT TO AMERICA

Sir Hubert Wilkins London, April 9. Sir Hubert Wilkins, the Australian Polar explorer, contemplates a one-day visit to America. It was probable, he said, that be would remain on American soil for one day onlyto attend the dinner of the Explorers’ Club, whereat he will bo toastmaster. Admiral Byrd will be presented at the dinner with the medal of the club’s highest award. It will be a most notable gathering of explorers of worldwide fame. Some mystery, however, attaches to Sir Hubert’s brief visit. It is understood that it will bring to fruition plans ■which he is making to undertake some new work in England, but the character of it he declines to discuss. Britain’s rearmament programme. Sir Hubert said, had delayed until next January the delivery of the engines of the submarine in which he proposes to make a lie wattempt to reach the North Pole by travelling under the ice. Probably the expedition will not set out until late in 1938. Lady Wilkins is expected to return to England With Sir Hubert for the Coronation.
