RICCARTON WORK

Horses for Timaru Meeting Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, April 20. No. 1 track, next to the course proper, was open for galloping and it provided fast going. Mercenary was a length .in front of Giselle at the end of half a mile along the back in 50sec., and Cyrillian beat Primak over the same ground in -.19 1-ssec. Miracle covered a mile in Imin. 42 3-sscc. Silver Sight strode over six furlongs in Imin. lOsec. The best time over this distance was credited to Orange Bud, who registered Imin. 16 l-ssec., the last four in 50 l-ssee. Irish Fiddle and Lisnaeree were together at the end of half a mile along the back in 4S 3-ssec. Emissary took 50 3-ssec., but was held in restraint over the early part. Heloise beat Vola Dale and Rousseau over the same journey in Imin. 1 3-ssec., the last four iu 4S 2-ssec. Monastic and Sky Pilot were responsible for a most spectacular display over two rounds of country, the latter especially creating a good impression by his fast and accurate jumping. He is to accompany Monastic and Haeretonu on a North Island trip embracing the Egmont, Waikato, and Auckland meetings. Pahu and Greek Gold are to be raced at the same meetings. Haeretonu jumped six hurdles, having to be kept up to his work throughout. Full Throt-tle is the latest recruit for hurdling and had some schooling over the pony hurdles, Nocturnus accompanying him as tutor. He shaped exceptionally well and should do well at the new branch of racing. Gay Lyric, by Philamor from Gay Sonnet, has rejoined Mrs. J. Campbell’s stable and Lady Kate is also now a member of the same team. Knockfin has been lame behind since racing at Waimate and will not be at Washdyke on Saturday. HAWERA GALLOPS Dominion- Special Service. Hawera, April 20. Conditions were ideal for fast work on the. Hawera tracks this morning, when some interesting trials were recorded by. horses engaged at Woodville. The plough was in great order for galloping. Le Grand shaded Fafner at the finish of three furlongs in 37 2-5. Both horses worked satisfactorily. Flying Chief and Red Manfred were to have sprinted half a mile, but the latter’s rider broke a leather, and Flying Chief ran the distance alone in 53. He is a much-improved hack, and will be seen out next at -the Egmont winter meeting. Kia Ora sprinted three furlongs smartly in 36 1-5. Master Limond and Corowa traversed six furlongs at three-quarter pace. Both horses worked scratchily, and neither is very forward in condition. -Dancing Lady and Golden Orchid finished together at -the close of half a mile in 50. The latter is making steady progress, and is to have her first race at the Egmont fixture next month. Autumn Leaf and Naughty Marietta were on terms at the finish of five furlongs in 1.3 4-5. On Monday morning Corowa was schooled over four hurdles, giving quite a fair- display for a novice, although he jumped carefully. Cynical Kid was allotted two rounds of strong pacework. Others -to do useful tasks were One Whetn, Tout le Monde, Vadanoe, Trilitbo, Notium, Indiscretion, and Pantoon. International has quite recovered from his injuries received at the Feilding Easter meeting, and infused plenty of dash into a round of strong work. O. Cox has recommissioned the Chief Ruler—Phrasa colt, Ruling Star, who has been turned out for four months.
