Milling Type Released AUSTRALIAN SUPPLY ALSO By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, April 19. Milling wheat is to be released for sale as fowl feed, according to a statement made to-day by the deputy-chair-man of the Wheat Committee, Mr. L. J. Schmitt. It was also announced that Australian wheat has been purchased to relieve the position. The fowl wheat position has recently become acute as millers have been taking almost all wheat offering, and suitplies of fowl feed have been Insufficient to meet the local demand. Mr. Schmitt’s statement is: “In order to provide poultry-keepers with supplies of New Zealand wheat, the Wheat Committee has found it necessary to release a certain quantity of milling wheat to meet the demand for fowl feed. The wheat is being sold at 5/3, March basis, plus increments and brokerage charges. The Wheat Committee has also purchased some Australian wheat for feeding, and it is hoped that this will relieve the demand for New Zealand milling wheat for poultry. By an arrangement made with merchants this wheat will be twirl to poultry-keepers in the North Island ‘Sn 10-sack lots ex wharf at a small profit (3d. a bushel) over the ex-wharf landed cost. This applies also to Australian wheat, the landed cost of which will, of course, be higher than that of New Zealand wheat. SHIPMENT FOR MILLERS Kekerangu Bringing 150,000 Bushels By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, April 21. Four thousand tons of Australian wheat are due to arrive ait Auckland on Saturday by the Kekerangu. Representing about 150,000 bushels, the shpiment will be disposed of among Auckland millers. This announcement was made by Mr. L. J. Schmitt, deputy chairman of the Wheat Committee. He said that representatives of the New Zealand Flourmilles’ Society had waited on the committee and. stressed their claims for an early importation of Australian milling wheat for their use. In view of the fact that New Zealand milling wheat for shipment to the North Island was being delayed by the late harvest and adverse weather the request was acceded to.
