GUNNERY PRACTICE

Shooting With Six-inch Shells HUDSON CUP COMPETITION Practice with six-inch guns was carried out at Fort Dorset yesterday by members of the 15th Heavy Battery, New Zealand Artillery, at present in eamp at Seatoun. Fifty rounds of live shell, 25 from each gun, were fired at a Hong-Kong target towed in Cook Strait by the Government steamer Janie Seddon. Conditions were favourable and excellent results were obtained. The shooting was watched by Colonel I. T. Standish, R.N.Z.A.. officer commanding the central military command, and by Lieut.-Colonel P. H. Bell. N.Z.S.C.. Staff officer, central military command. A handsome trophy, the Hudson Cup, is allocated for competition between the 15th Heavy Battery (Wellington) and the 13th Heavy Battery (Auckland), and the performance of the 'Wellington men has been judged for the purpose of that competition. The cup, which is at present held by Wellington, is awarded for general efficiency in all branches, including attendance, battery foot drill, results of shooting, gunnery and searchlight drill. r rhe judge is Major A. B. Williams, R.N.Z.A., officer commanding the southern command. The battery will strike camp to-day.
