ORANGE SHORTAGE
Supplies Next Week There were a few cases of Tahitian oranges sold in Wellington yesterday at prices ranging from -10/- to 45/a case. The shipment to arrive at Auckland to-day by the Monterey will not affect the shortage in Wellington materially, according to advice received from tlie Wellington markets yesterday. although a substantial portion of the 4000 eases of oranges and grapefruit included in the consignment have been secured by Wellington firms. The Jamaican shipment which is expected on April 26 consists of 8000 cases, and Wellington’s share of these, together with tlie Fijian consignment arriving a few days later, should ease the position considerably. Californian suppliers are stated to be experiencing difficulty in fulfilling overseas demands, as the Canadian market has absorbed the major portion of the fruit available, and their season lias uttered eoniderably from bad weather conditions.
