Substantia] Auckland Increase By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland. March 31. Customs revenue collected in Auckland for the financial year ending today, including petrol tax and tire duties, amounted to £4,026.568, an increase of £601,364. or approximately 174 per cent, over the figure for 193536. Ordinary receipts totalled £3,290,661, an increase of £504.729, or 18 per eent., and excise on beer produced £177.53-1. compared with £148,090 in the preceding 12 months. Sales tax collections for the two periods were £910.879 and £728,576 respectively, representing an increase of nearly 25 per cent.
The grand total of revenue collected through the Customs Department for the financial year was £5,114,981, as compared with £4,301,870, or nearly 19 per cent. more. Returns for March were as follows, figures for March. 1936. in parentheses: —Customs, £297,205 (£293,250) ; motor spirit, £72.044 (£113,347) ; tire duty, £2752 (£1451) ; total, £372.001 (£408,048).
