DISPUTE AT RAILWAY WORKSHOPS
Otahuhu Men Cease Work DEMANDS LATER CONCEDED By Telegraph—Press Associativa. Auckland, March 31. The dispute between boilermakers employed at the Olalnihu Railway Workshops and the Railway Department concerning the stalling of jobs, which has been at issue for several weeks, culminated this morning tn the men ceasing work and insisting upon the withdrawal of certain instructions. A deputation waited on the workshops management, and, after a break of about half an hour, the instructions were cancelled and the men resumed work. The differences betwen the men and the department arose over proposals to employ mon classified as labourers iu the handling of machines and plant. 'Phis was resented by the boilermakers, who claimed that the proposed arrangements would be a breach of craft observance and that the work should only be carried out by skilled tradesmen. The matter will be considered by the department in Wellington.
