Meetings Held in Many New Zealand Centres

HIGHER TOTALISATOR TURNOVERS Feilding Cup to Alby; Debham Wins Big Race at Tauherenikau With the exception of the Auckland meeting, which was postponed on account of rain, the Easter racing fixtures throughout New Zealand opened on Saturday. The weather for the North Island racing was dull and threatening, and rain fell at AVairarapa, but the South Island meetings were held under good conditions. The Feilding Cup was won by an outsider in Alby and the sprint went to Ben Braggie. Debham won.the Easter Handicap at Tauherenikau, and the Riverton Cup was won by Last Refrain. Increased totalisator turnovers were features of the meetings, which will be continued to-dav, when the Auckland meeting will open, and the Waipukurau club will also have racing. The Metropolitan and Hawera Trotting Clubs’ meetings also opened on Saturday. At Sydney the A.J.C. autumn meeting's opening was marked by very fast times, Australian and New Zealand records being equalled. The Victorian colt Ajax won the Sires’ Produce Stakes, Gold Rod took the St. Leger, and the Doncaster Handicap was won by Sarcherie. The Sydney Cup will be run to-day.
