COASTGUARD CUTTER’S RESCUE
Sinking Norwegian Ship
(Received March 24, 7.35 p.m.) New York, March 23. The coastguard cutter Chelan rescued 17 men from the sinking Norwegian freighter Bjerkli, 7CO miles east of New York, after six vessels had battled through a storm for 18 hours because of inaccurate positions given in the distress signals sent by an amateur operator.
