GOVERNMENT HELP

Scheme to Prevent Fenland Inundations (Received M.arch 24, 7.35 p.m.) London, March 23. During a discussion in the House of Commons on the Fens floods the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Mr. W. S. Morrison, promised Government assistance if the authorities devised a scheme to prevent inundation.

IMMEDIATE DANGER OVER

(British Official Wireless.) (Received March 24, 5 p.m.)

Rugby, March 23.

Little change has taken place in the flooded Fen district since yesterday. Immediate danger has been averted, but with the approach of high tides in two days’ time the position must remain a cause of anxiety.

Heavy snow fell yesterday in the areas which drain into the great Ouse and Cam, and this may add to the difficulties of the situation.
